Child Exploration Study

The goal of our study is to assess the relationship between child mobility, parenting tendencies, and spatial skills.

We have two parts to the study:

  • The first is a series of short assessments for parents/guardians and children. They will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
  • The second part of the study is optional and gathers information on children’s mobility patterns through GPS data. Participants will use a phone to measure their locations for five days. Children will also receive short text prompts to respond with their outdoor experiences. At the end of the study, children will meet with the research assistant to talk through their travel experiences.

Please see the form below to indicate your interest in the first or both studies. Parents and children will each be compensated $5 for their participation in the survey. Children will receive $40 for their participation in the five day GPS study and will be entered in a raffle to win a $50 Amazon gift card. Both studies will be fully conducted on Zoom.

This study has been approved by Wesleyan University Institutional Review Board for Social and Behavioral Sciences. All responses will remain confidential and anonymous. Participation in each part of the study is voluntary, and participants can discontinue the study at any time and for any reason.
